Lauretta Jonathan is an indigene of Abia State and a graduate of Mass Communication, she is the CEO of Scarlet diamond events.

Lauretta ventured into event planning because of her flair for organizing parties and ensuring they turned out well. She started her business in October 2020.

The events industry has contributed significantly to the economy of the country. Every week, there’s one event or corporate function to be executed, and events professionals are called to execute them. According to published data, Lagos State alone is said to host over 20,000 events monthly and expected earnings amount to about $300m annually. So one can make money from this business.

Lauretta says she started her business with ₦30,000.

Her high point has been in the number of events that she has organized with no mishaps or errors.
In the early stage of her career, she had to use her money just to ensure an event she was contracted for turned out perfectly fine. She says she needed that event to add to her portfolio.

Scarlet diamond events Lauretta says there are three major roles in her business: Event director, Event coordinator and Client service. Right now she does the work alone except for the Event coordinators. Despite facing challenges, Lauretta has not thought about giving up.

She presents Miss Temitope Oluwajimi Victoria, the C.E.O of Indigo crystal concepts as her business mentor.

Lauretta looks forward to engaging with policymakers and investors etc to scale her business. In her words, “Basically I will love to have a wedding style shoot so I can show the world my potentials also putting up sponsored adverts on the internet and basically anywhere would cost some money”.

To the people who want to venture into event planning, Lauretta advises, From the beginning, it might seem tough but the truth is, do not give up if planning is what you really love, go for it, trust me when I say the other side is greener”.
