Mary Silas Otop is a passionate young entrepreneur from Oruk Anam local government area of Akwa Ibom state. She is a final year student of the University of Uyo studying Communication Arts. She is the CEO of Jewel ushering agency.

The ushering business has great economic potential, it is lucrative because of the numerous events that are held every day in the country. Mary affirms that she has been able to make good money from her ushering agency since she ventured into it.

Mary says she started her ushering agency with N5000, an amount that was jointly contributed by a few friends. They used the money to buy a white shirt and black skirt, the first uniform of the agency.

Her high point in the business was in December 2020 when she handled a job for a client and got well paid. Mary, however, states that some of the low points and challenges that she has encountered are low patronage, lack of connection to high-paying clients and lack of required capital to inject into the business. In the face of these challenges as a student entrepreneur, Mary admits she has thought of giving up but she daily motivates herself to keep moving on.

Mary says she doesn’t work alone. She has over 20 ushers working with her in the agency. The CEO of Jewel Ushering agency looks forward to engaging with relevant policymakers and investors for the purpose of scalability.
She advises people who want to venture into the ushering agency business to have some capital to invest in the business, be social and also keep trustworthy friends.

With the high number of events held every day, ranging from weddings to business to political functions and other social activities, the opportunities for ushering agencies are increasing, therefore an investment in this line of business is a worthwhile venture. Let this inspiring story of Mary Otop the CEO of Jewel ushering agency motivate you to start your own business.

  2. First of all I would like to say excellent blog!
I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing.
I’ve had a tough time clearing my thoughts in getting my
thoughts out. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to
15 minutes tend to be wasted just trying to figure out how
to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Many thanks!

  20. Hi Mary,
Nice seeing you having this type of move to think about getting into business of your own.
That means, in the next five years from today, you will be better off financially if you put our Lord Jesus Christ first in your business.
My question is, What are the injections that you are talking about if you have the capital and how
much are you having in mind?

    • Thank u so very much dear. I sincerely appreciate your kind words.
If I have d capital, I will provide the girls with uniforms, we go for photoshoot, all this is just create awareness and also Advertisement, so that my potential can know about us. Get I’d card, complimentary card, fliers, most importantly an office. Cause alot clients always want to come to the office to do business, when I told them I don’t have an office yet, they back out. So this are the challenges.
