If you are interested in establishing and running a school, then this story of Moses Akpan is for you.

Moses Akpan is from Mkpat Enin local government area in Akwa Ibom State. He is 32 years old and the CEO of Dazzle International School. Dazzle International school is a coeducational institution with nursery, primary and secondary schools located at Dazzle Avenue, Ekpri Nsukara Offot, Uyo.  The school is approved by the state and Federal Government, and their curriculum captures the studies of science, arts and vocational/technical courses.

Moses Akpan singlehandedly ventured into the business in the year 2012. Moses affirms that his business produces so much money.  Moses ventured into the business with a startup capital of about N900,000. He started the school in a rented building but currently, he is operating in his building.

The high point so far is the ability to make the school a standard and also minimize the fees. According to Moses, “My school is operating on top-notch academic excellence which is why we have students. We don’t charge much, our fee is the lowest in Uyo because we’re operating on a partial scholarship scheme. As I speak, we have declared a 300 students scholarship scheme for Akwa Ibomites. We also train students in technical skills and other skills. We have a good number of our students who can do electrical installations, catering, baking, sewing etc.”

However, the low point in the business is the lack of infrastructures and funding. Running a school is not an easy task and although Moses has faced so many challenges in his business, he has never thought of giving up because he is passionate about his work. He loves teaching and grooming children.

A school cannot be operated by one person, hence Moses does not work alone, he has both teaching and non-teaching staff working for him. Dazzle Intl School was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in 2014 and approved by the State Government in 2016.

Moses presents the proprietor of Top Faith, Emmanuel Abraham, the proprietor of Miracle Academy,  Late Dr Joseph Etim, and Barr Emmanuel Akpan of Enoidem Chambers as his mentors in the business.

Schools are very important in our society and so Moses wants some support. In his words, “Policymakers and investors can give me a loan with an extended tenure of at least 5 years of repayment. 10 million naira will go a long way to reposition the business in terms of face lifting and completion of a few uncompleted buildings which could be used for the skills acquisitions development The government can give me a grant or venture capitalists invest while we share the profit. This will make the business to grow at a fast speed and create more value for the society”.

Moses advises young people to venture into business and not wait for white-collar jobs. He further advises them to be dedicated, focused, patient, disciplined and persistent in their various businesses.

Entrepreneurial activities help in fastening the growth of a state. An Entrepreneurial environment encourages hard work and reduces the rate of unemployment. Entrepreneurs provide social services and above all contribute to the economic growth of the country.

Running a school can be a fulfilling activity, so now that you have read the story of Moses Akpan, we hope it inspires you to become a school owner.
